Sunrise, Waterfall, and Pigs In A Blanket

Last night Justin and I decided that this morning would be a good morning to see the sunrise. When our alarms went off at four we looked at each other asking one another if we were really ready to be up…? No we did not want to be up, but we were so we put on our bug spray grabbed our flashlights and journals and headed out. By 4:28 we were at the top of the cliffs and the view was amazing. The half moon and the few stars that were still out gave us enough light to see the valley bellow. By 4:36 the rosters were crowing, the dogs were barking, and the donkeys were going at it like there was no tomorrow. The sunrise came around 5:15 and it was an amazing sight. Justin and I made the fifteen min walk back to the compound and fell asleep briefly before waking up to go to church.

This morning the group slit up and went to two different churches. I had the privilege of going to a local Gorma church and it was a wonderful experience. It was a one room church and had people crammed into it, standing in doorway, and looking in the window. The worship was outstanding… did not understand a word of it, but enjoyed every minuet of it. What’s more is the congregation seemed to really enjoy the two worship songs we sang for them.

After lunch and a nap the team pilled into Matt’s truck and followed Francoise’s truck filled with kids from the handicap center down the road to a waterfall. Once we arrived we parked the trucks on the side of the road and all pilled out. We all took the hands of the on or two or three children and started the ten minuet walk to the falls. The kids had a great time playing, splashing, and swimming in the water. After a while the team hiked back into the woods to a second latter water fall. Hiking up to the top of the falls was so fun and the view from the top was amazing. Dr. Fish decided it would be fun to follow his student’s example and work his way out onto the ledge under the falls. Unfortunately, he was not as nimble as us young kids and slipped and fell into the water. His escapade lead to a series of jumps, splashes, and doggie paddling back to shore.

Seeing as it is the Forth of July, the cooks, Justin Jon and I, decided to make an American picnic in the heart of Africa. As we looked around the kitchen and decided to cut up come cucumbers, boil beans in salt and pepper, make some laughing cow Mac and Cheese, and top it off with yes pigs in a blanket with home made doe. The dinner was a hit with every one and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

We are all having a great time building relationships with one another as well as with the Africans. The project work is going well and we will be starting up again tomorrow. Today was the last day Dr. Fish will be in Mahadaga as he will be leaving for the next leg of his trip tomorrow. If you could be praying for his travels as well as Dr. Hare’s we would really appreciate it. Please pray for the continued good health of our team as Dr. Vader was not feeling the best this evening. Also pray for our clients and our interaction with them. Thank you so much for all your prayers.

God Bless,

Charlie Kimpel
